Welcome to the Collaborative Family Law Institute (CFLI)
I founded the Collaborative Family Law Institute in 2000, with eleven other South Florida-based family lawyers, after attending an American Bar Association seminar and learning about the advantages of collaboration over the traditional adversarial approach in family law cases. My first step was to invite Stu Webb, a Minnesota family lawyer and “founding father” of Collaborative Family Law, to Miami, Florida to train our founders. The nucleus of twelve South Florida lawyers, has grown into an interdisciplinary team of 67 attorneys, mental health and financial counselors, all supporting the entire gamut of our clients’ legal, financial and emotional needs.
What has always appealed to me about the collaborative concept, whether in a divorce, paternity or other family law matter, is that instead of acting as winner-take-all proxies who turn up the heat between spouses in conflict, Collaborative Family Lawyers expertly enable spouses and domestic partners to defuse conflict by recognizing and building on their own needs and interests. We put our clients in the driver’s seat because, ultimately, only they can build livable legal solutions that minimize financial and emotional disruption and maximize strongly held values, like effective co-parenting for the welfare of children.
Join us in helping us break the cycle of conflict.
